My Family

I used to not spend too much time with my family, even when the house I was renting was no more than two blocks from my mom's house.

Things are somewhat different these days. I see my mom quite often, and we talk nearly every day. We try to get together for dinner or lunch once a month or so. This sounds like it's very infrequent, but we're both pretty much 'stay at home' people and I work a pretty hectic schedule.

My dad and I don't talk as often, but we do make time for dinner together once a month or so. He's leading a busy life these days and it allows for less time to hang out. He's very active in the lives of my half-sisters who are quite a bit younger. This is a good thing — they need a positive role model in their lives.

I have other family in the state, but obviously see them less just because of location. My aunt and uncle have retired to Titusville, where I was born and where she and my mother grew up. My dad's father and his brother live down in Ocala, where my father was raised.

A Family of My Own

Since Jen and I started dating, and certainly since we've been engaged, I've essentially inherited her family, which is much larger than mine. They're all wonderful and I get along well with each of them. I was nervous during the first family reunion I accompanied Jen to because I was meeting a lot of the extended family for the first time and wasn't sure how bad I was going to get beat up. It went really well and I didn't get thrown in the pool or anything.

I haven't started a family of my own. For that matter, I'm not 100 percent sure we will. Jen and I talk about it as though we might one day, but then again we both realize that neither of us are completely decided upon having kids. I'd say it's more likely than not, but it still isn't something we're actively planning at this point.

I guess I'll update this section to include them if I do though. Seems like the right place to put it.
